Getting Started: Borrow, Renew, Reserve

New to the Library and need to know more? This is the perfect starting point for you to find out all about the Library

Access your Library Record Online

We recommend you regularly check in on your Library Record online.   At a glance you will be able to see items you have on loan, renew any items you want to hold on to, look at your reading history, see if any books you have requested are ready for collection, and see if any of your books have been recalled and need to be returned.

Login online to your Library Record, or download the iExeter app and use the Library option to look at your record.

Renewals

You can renew standard loan items online.  If you are unable to renew, ring or email the library.

You cannot renew if the item has been requested by someone else, it is very overdue or if you have library fines.

To renew log in to your Library Record, view your checked out items and choose all or selected items to renew.

Requesting items that are on loan

Library resources may be needed by more than one person at a time. If you want to borrow a book and all copies are on loan:

  • Use the Request button on the library catalogue to recall the book
  • We'll send an email to let you know when to collect it
  • Collect it  from the Reservations shelves
  • We hold a reservation for 3 days
  • View your Library Record to check on your requests

If your book is recalled

If someone else wants to use a book you have on loan, it can be recalled

  • You will receive an email with the new due date.
  • You must return by the new due date.
  • You cannot renew.
  • Books can be recalled anytime, including during vacations
  • Return books by the recall date to avoid fines

Fines

Fine charges are 50p per day late you return a recalled item or a High Demand item.

You can pay fines online.

Postal Loans

If you find it difficult to visit the library in person, we may be able to post items to you by request. Find out more about using the Postal Loans service

Your Reading History

The library system keeps a record of items you have borrowed.  This can be useful when you want to look back at the materials you used for referencing purposes or so that you can reuse an item at a later date.

You can opt out of this service, if you wish. You can access your reading history by logging in to your Library account here.
