Borrowing at Exeter Campuses (externals)

External borrowers can use the self service kiosks on levels 0 and 1 or speak to staff at the enquiry desk if you need assistance.

Borrowing (externals)

Registered external library borrowers are entitled to:

 

  • Borrow 4 items with a loan period of 18 weeks (loan period shortens to 7 days for recalled items, read about recall)
  • Borrow up to 4 DVDs with a loan period of 7 days
  • There is no charge to external users for borrowing items
  • Access the libraries during staffed hours:

9.00 - 6.00 Monday to Friday at Forum library

10.00 - 6.00 Saturdays to Sundays at Forum library

10.00 - 4.00 Monday to Friday at St Luke's Library (Haighton)

9.00 - 6.00 Monday to Friday at Old Library (enquiries to staff at Forum library)

Applying for external borrower membership

Individuals may be eligible to apply for external borrowing membership within the following categories:

 

  • If you are an alumnus of the University you can learn more about how to join the library here.
  • If you are a student or staff at another UK University, please see the SCONUL access information.  
  • If you are a local teacher then find out information about access here. 
  • If you are a member of NHS staff you can apply to become an External Borrower here.
  • If you are a local resident (with none of the affiliations above) and you can apply to become an External Borrower here.

Pre-registration library access

University of Exeter students will have full access to library resources after student registration. 

Prior to registration prospective students are welcome to use the Forum library on a reference only basis.  Those needing to access the collections at St Luke's library should apply for Pre-registration access using the procedure detailed below.

Those wishing to borrow books are advised to consider Inter-library loans from their local public library service.

Those able to visit the library can apply for Pre-registration borrowing following the guidelines below.

Due to licensing restrictions access to online resources for Pre-registration students is limited to 'Walk in access'
