Dawsonera platform closure

by Caroline Gale on 2020-07-13T14:19:00+01:00 | 0 Comments

The Dawsonera eBook platform will no longer be available after 31st July 2020. This is as a result of the company, Bertram Books, going into administration.

The Library is working with other suppliers to transfer the books currently available to other online platforms, and to update links in Library Search and in reading lists. There may be a temporary loss of access to content, as it is not known when the Dawsonera platform will stop being available.

As a user, you may have information stored in your account that you will need to retrieve, such as saved searches, notes or recently viewed items. You need to do this by 30th July 2020 as transfers of books will be starting on 31st July.

To do this, first login to the platform: Link to Dawsonera for Exeter users

  • Once logged in, go to My Account.
  • The box on the left shows you different sections such as Bookmarks, Title Notes and Recently Viewed items.
  • Go to each section and make a note of the contents if you need them.
  • There is no mechanism to export the lists, so the process is manual.

In addition, you may have notes made in specific books.

  • To retrieve these, go to the book (either search via Library Search and follow the link, or search within Dawsonera itself).
  • There is no mechanism to identify which books in your account have notes on them.
  • Open the book in Read Online mode.
  • On the left, click on Notes and then Export.
  • This creates a .rft file of your notes that can be opened in Word or similar apps.
