UK Copyright Law protects the commercial rights of authors, creators and publishers of written works (not just books), music, art, computer programmes and text and images on the internet.
In simple terms it allows them to control who copies the material they have created so that they retain the right to exploit its commercial potential.
Copyright law makes exceptions that allow students (and others in education) to copy a very limited amount of material to enable them to undertake:
