Art History and Visual Culture: Finding and using library resources: 1. Effective Library research

To search effectively you need to invest time up front to plan out a library research strategy.  It is easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer breadth of information available, and you can also waste time if you look in the wrong place.

Before you start, consider three key questions:

  1. What sort of information do I need?
  2. Where can I find the resources that are the most appropriate?
  3. How can I search effectively so that I find relevant materials for my research topic?

This tutorial will concentrate on finding quality information using effective search techniques. A separate Evaluating Sources tutorial is available here.
