Academic Sources

How to find academic sources

Image of magnifying glassYou can easily find academic sources using your ELE Module Reading Lists and the Library Research Tools.

If you want to explore further or are carrying out research, Library Search is a good place to start as you can easily refine your results to show just books or peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, theses and more.

Your ELE module Reading List

Module Reading Lists frequently contain key academic sources. These have been recommended by academics teaching on your module, so you know that these sources are relevant and authoritative, and importantly, available from the library. Reading Lists ensure everything you need to read is available in one place.

Library Search

Search across the print and online collections for books, chapters, articles, journals and lots more.
Use Library Search LibGuide for guidance.

Library Search will help you discover books, journals, articles, audio visual material and more on your chosen topic. This is a good place to start when you are beginning to research a topic as you can draw on content from a variety of different sources.

It does not cover all specialist databases,  and due to the way it standardises and aggregates content from lots of different sources you may find that more advanced search functionality is available directly via individual database searches.  So follow up with a more focused database search as you move through your research.
