Peer review is a process used by academic journals and publishers to verify the quality and reliability of scholarly work before it is published. Reviewers are usually experts or academics in the same field or subject area.
Journal articles are the most commonly peer-reviewed type of academic source. Reviewers evaluate submissions based on their accuracy, originality, relevance, methodology, and use of data. After review, the article may be accepted without changes, returned to the author with suggestions for revision and resubmission, or rejected altogether.
