Equality, Diversity & Inclusion in Library Services

The Library Chat service gives all library users quick and friendly support from the library.  This has proved very popular with users.

It supports EDI initiatives by:

  • offering real time library support for users that are unable to visit the library in person or for whom visiting the library is problematic
  • supporting those with social anxiety who prefer to seek help through keyboard interaction rather than face to face
  • providing support 24/7 through the use of a library co-operative system.  Librarians in other locations, e.g. United States provide first level triaged support for library users out of hours when University of Exeter library staff are not available.  Users can get support at point of need, whenever they choose to study/research

The Chat service is backed by an FAQ and enquiry service so that complex queries can be triaged to experts in the Library and beyond.

An Ask Us button pops up across Library web pages and LibGuides to provide easy access to the service.
