Can I borrow items without my Student ID card?

As our borrowing system is self-service and automated, you will need your Student Unicard to borrow items.

Your Student Unicard is also your library card and enables you to borrow items, access the electronic resources, print and more. For information on how to apply for a Unicard and more, click here.

If your book is recalled

If someone needs a book which you have out on loan, it can be recalled and the due date shortened.  You will always get to keep a book for at least 7 days from the date it was borrowed. If any of your books are recalled:

  • You will get an email with a new due date
  • You cannot renew a recalled book
  • Return by the new due date to make the book available for the next person who needs it
  • Return recalled books by the new due date and avoid fines
  • You can return by post

Books can be recalled anytime, including during vacations.  So, check your emails every week!

Library Fines

The Library is a shared resource.

Library fines support shared use of materials by encouraging the prompt return of materials that are in demand.

Fines are charges at 50 pence per day for in demand items as follows:

Overdue recalled items

  • If a reservation is placed on an item you have borrowed, the loan will be reduced to 7 days and you cannot renew it.

  • Return the item by the recall date so that fines do not apply

No fines are charged for overdue items that are not subject to recall.

All library fines can be paid using our online payment service
